MSU Elves - some observations

Greetings!

Due to real life interference I had to miss the local event that took place in the always welcoming hall of Three D6 store - The Valley of Kings 2. If you are interested, you can check the results here: The Valley of Kings 2 - Results

It means that I am not going to have any new battle reports at the moment. However, it is not an excuse not to write something about Kings of War! The number of games I have played so far has just reached 50 so I think some kind of generic post about experiences and observation can be a good idea. I still would love to write something more detailed in the future but as it is going to take time.

However, my fellow player Daniel (@Ecumenical_mate on Twitter), suggested I may write something about MSU Elves on the blog. Especially, that he is interested in trying his version of such an army too!

Game 51 - Trident Realms - 2017/04/17

Greetings!

This game was long overdue as real life interfered a bit and Ed and I had to postpone it. Fortunately, Ed found some time to play before his trip to US where he is going to attend Lone Wolf KoW tournament. He is bringing his trusty Trident Realms army, that is continuously undergoing a very interesting development.

Ed used this particular force during his last event, Fools of War, and was very successful indeed as he finished the event on 7th position and having the same amount of points as 5th and 6th players (including Dan King himself!). I believe this excellent result was not only due to a very interesting composition of his army (Trident Realms and Dwarf allies) but mainly due to his persistence and very good experience with Trident Realms faction.

I was very curious about Ed's army, both about its potential on the battle field and the modelling aspect. Ed told me, that Dwarfs are actually Pirates! Now it all makes perfect sense to include them in the Neriticans army and I can't wait to see his newly painted units. (the picture above was taken during his most recent tournament where his allies were not yet ready)

Here are the details of the Trident Realm army with Dwarf Allies:

Trident Realms - Amy List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Hammer of Measured Force - 250

Star Wars Armada - Game 1 - 2017/04/09

Greetings!

This blog post is going to be about something completely different than what I usually write about. Instead of talking abut fantasy battles, infantry, cavalry or even epic monsters, this time I would like to talk about my first game of Star Wars Armada!

I had a fantastic opportunity to play that game thanks to the great hospitality of my amazing friend, Jimmy, when I happen to visit his corner of the world recently. Jimmy is my fellow wargamer from the time of Warhammer Fantasy Battle 8th edition who moved at some stage to play Fantasy Flight Games systems. His main interest is, at least at the moment, focused on X-Wing and you should definitely visit his fantastic blog dedicated to that game:

We have had quite a few discussions about Armada prior to my visit and I was very happy to know that Jimmy accumulated enough ships and squadrons to build two fleets for us to try the game out. Fortunately for me, he also had his first demo game to learn the ropes from his friend (check the relevant blog post here: Armada - First Game).

In this post I will discuss my initial expectations, the game itself and impressions afterwards. I hope it will provide some entertaining read. :)

Game 50 - Kingdoms of Men - 2017/04/07

Greetings!

My most recent game was a rematch against Meniskusmike from Mantic forum and his Kingdoms of Men army with Brotherhood allies. We had our first game a year ago! I must say I did not realize almost a year has passed already! Here is the link to our first encounter:

We also decided to try a new platform for our online games, Universalbattle 2 as a way to test it and provide feedback Lorenzo, the designer of this fantastic software. The platform is still under development, so you can also provide feedback from your games to make it even better!

Mic brought the army that is based around the same principle but this time the composition was different in a few places:

Kingdoms of Men - Army List

40 Bowmen, Horde, Wine of Elvenkind - 205
- Siege Artillery, War Engine - 90
- General on Winged Beast, Hero, Blade of Slashing - 195

40 Foot Guard, Horde - 225
- Siege Artillery, War Engine - 90
- Wizard, Hero, Bane Chant (2), Lighting Bolt (3), Inspiring Talisman - 85

20 Foot Guard, Regiment, Two-Handed Weapons - 135
- Wizard, Hero, Lighting Bolt (3), Scarletmaw's Fenulian Amulet - 75

10 Knights, Regiment, Blessing of the Gods - 220
- 5 Mounted Scouts, Troop - 100
- Wizard, Hero, Bane Chant (2), Lighting Bolt (3), Mounted - 80

20 Militia Mob, Regiment - 70

Brotherhood Allies

10 Order of Redemption, Regiment - 260

3 Order of the Forsaken, Regiment - 170

The Valley of Kings 1 - Summary - 2017/04/05

Greetings!

Here is the short summary of the Valley of Kings 1 tournament. Once again, I am sorry for a delay in recent reports updates.

First of all, many thanks to Matt, Tas and Three D6 for organizing and hosting yet another great event for Kings of War enthusiasts. It was great to meet new players and see new faces as it means there are more and more people playing this game in Canberra. Having such events on a regular basis definitely helps attracting players and I think one day, 4 games format at 2000 points is a great combination. I know that there are going to be more events like that and hopefully I will be able to attend.

Here are a few things I wanted to highlight about the tournament:

Monster March! - Week 5 - The Final!

Greetings!

After 5 weeks of a Monstrous Journey, it is time to finish it and wrap up the event. For me, it was a very unique experience and I will talk about it a bit at the end of this blog post.

What I would like to start with is to say THANK YOU! to all the participants who made this whole event possible. I didn't know how many people would have wanted to take part in it but I was extremely happy that there was a very nice interest and that the participants submitted their pictures on a regular basis.

That was simply amazing and from my point of view first Monster March was a success. I hope that you as a participant also enjoyed it. Ok, before I continue, let's have a look at the updates I have received in the last week of #MonsterMarch.

The Valley of Kings 1 - Trident Realms - 2017/03/31

Greetings!

My sincere apologies for a long delay in posting the battle reports. Here is the one from the last game of the Valley of Kings 1 tournament. This time I had a pleasure to play against another veteran of the Canberran KoW community and a very creative Trident Realm player - Tas.

It would also be a rematch as we had one encounter already so I was really looking forward to seeing how the game would develop this time. Even more so that we used most recent CoK 2017 suggestions and some of the units in the army of Trident Realms got a bit of a boost too.

No wonder Tas took some new units in his most recent incarnation of the army:

Trident Realms - Army List

40 Naiad Ensnarers, Horde, Crystal Pendant of the Retribution
- 10 Nokken, Troop
- 10 Nokken, Troop
- Kraken, Monster
- Leviathan's Bane, War Engine
- Trident King, Hero

40 Placoderms, Horde, Brew of Haste
- Leviathan's Bane, War Engine
- Placoderm Defender, Hero, Wings of Honeymaze

6 Depth Horrors, Horde, Blessings of the Gods
- Leviathan's Bane, War Engine
- Thuul Mythican, Hero, Inspiring Talisman
