Hobby Update - 2018/01/17

Greetings!

With Australian Clash of Kings 2018 getting closer and closer, I try to keep up the pace with painting and modelling. Previous week was quite productive as I managed to make bases for my cavalry units. I must admit that it makes even the old miniatures look much better and moving these units on the battle field is way easier too!

However, the main painting project I have ongoing at the moment is to finish painting chariots. I quickly learned that despite being bigger models and with fewer details, they still require quite a lot of time and attention. And the amount of details to paint turned out to be more than I expected! The fact that when I started painting them I had no clear idea yet how I want them to be painted also didn't help to accomplish the goal.

Game 75 - Romans - 2018/01/14

Greetings!

One of my hobby new year resolution is to play more  often and regularly at a local store. Fortunately for me, there is a weekly Kings of Monday gaming night and I really wanted to attend as I have missed quite many gaming nights so far. My challenge for a battle was quickly accepted and the second game of the year 2018 and the first one with the real miniatures was against Romans commanded by Tribune Glen!

Glen plays with heavy infantry army of Romans and I had an opportunity to play against him once before. It was thus great to have a rematch and this time he brought a bit of a different version of the army, this time built around four hordes of Heavy Warriors.

Game 74 - Kingdoms of Men - 2018/01/12

Greetings!

The beginning of a new year is always great for the players in Oz because it is a time of anticipation and counting days to CanCon - huge gaming convention. Second year in the row CanCon will also host Clash of Kings 2018 tournament for Kings of War players. Hence a lot of them are busy now with painting or practicing or both!

It happened that my good friend, Michael, needed to test his most recent version of Kings of War army. I have not played since Masters so some practice would only mean good thing for me too. We thus set up a game on Universal Battle!

After our last game Michael decided that he can bring back some Rifles and here are the details of his army list:

Hobby Update - 2018/01/10

Greetings!

Although I have already had two games of Kings of War in 2018 (reports are being prepared!) I also wanted to continue with modelling and painting. In my previous post I mentioned I considered rebasing some of the old models and putting them on multi-bases, even if the models are going to be repainted or replaced with new ones.

To do so I used the MDF magnetized bases I ordered some time ago from Olympian Games and used rolling pins from Greenstuff World to create the scenic surface. I decided to do so for all four cavalry units I have as a test of an idea and to see if I like it, even with old models.

Hobby Update - 2018/01/03

Greetings!
One of my New Year hobby resolution is to make some more substantial progress with modelling an painting my Kings of War army. I made a decision to go full multi-base earlier but only a few units were transferred to that. The main reason is that I actually paint new models and multi-base whole unit from the scratch instead of using the old, painted miniatures to do so. As I paint slowly and not regularly that often takes longer than I wanted.

However, I don't want to abandon painting new models and multi-basing them. I am very pleased with the effect so far and I want to continue with that approach. I just need to be more disciplined, especially that I cannot count on having more hobby time this year than in 2017. Quite the contrary!

The good plan should start with a quick assessment of where I am at the moment with the painting progress.

2017 - Review

Greetings!

It's been a very good year for me considering all things hobby related. It was definitely the year of Kings of War where I dedicated my hobby time to playing and reporting various KoW games as well as modelling and painting units for my KoW Elves army.

I have not done annual review for blog activities before but I think it may be a great idea to do so. I find it good to reflect a bit upon the things that happened, the plans the came into fruition and those that didn't. Things I learned and things I hope to do next either as a continuation or as completely new projects.

It is also a great opportunity to thank you, the blog readers. I would like to thank you for paying a visit to the blog, reading the articles I posted and the comments you left. It is one of the best motivation to see that things I have to share are worthy reading and commenting. It was great to have these conversations here on the blog, on forums where I posted the links as well as on twitter and facebook. I hope to provide even more quality content in 2018 for your to enjoy!

Australian Masters 2017 - Part 10

Greetings!

Part 10 is the last one of the series dedicated to Australian Masters 2017 and I would like to conclude with a collection of summaries, observations and simply share some general experiences.

It was great to be able to qualify and participate in that unique event. Many thanks to KenF for organizing the event, Good Games Ipswich for hosting us and for the great gifts and to all people who were one way or another involved in making this tournament happen!

I feel privileged and honored that I made it thus far and I hope that Australian Masters will get more and more popular in the future!
